The popular album ‘21’ from the British singer Adele, is the biggest selling album of the year 2012 so far. The development has been revealed by the figures revealed by the British Phonographic industry.
The album was dropped in January 2011 and has so far recorded sales of 596,000 in the year 2012. Adele, who recently announced her first pregnancy with boyfriend Simon Konecki, is fighting put the battle of music against the other female singers like Emeli Sande and Lana Del Rey.
Since the release of the album, it sold 4.36 million copies and even in the month of May it overtook Michael Jackson’s Thriller and became the UK‘s fifth biggest selling album of all time. After Adele, Emeli’s debut album ‘Our Version of Events’ is the second biggest selling album, with sales of 532,000 and Lana Del Rey stand at number three with 482,000 sales.
While the top five list is completed by Ed Sheeran’s + which sold 448,000 and brought his total sales to 1.2 million while Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto has recorded sales of 312,000 and 1.2 million since the time of release. Overall, 43.6 albums were sold in the first half of 2012, which is almost seven million fewer than were shifted during the same period.
