American music legend and “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin postponed three new concert dates scheduled for June 2013, her spokesperson announced on May 22, 2013. This news comes only a week after the singer cancelled two other shows, previously scheduled for May 2013, due to health issues.
Spokesperson for the superstar, David Brokaw, said she did not give any specific reason why she postponed concert dates in Clarkston, Ottawa and Montreal, originally scheduled for late June 2013, but he did confirm that she will resume her schedule in July 2013. Concert organizers revealed that “Natural Woman” and “Respect” singer, 71, cancelled two shows in Chicago and Connecticut last week, in order to undergo undisclosed medical intervention, between May 20 and May 26, 2013.
The director of Ottawa Jazz Festival, Catherine O’Grady told the media that Franklin is too ill to perform at a show in Ottawa, originally scheduled for June 26, 2013. O’Grady said, “It’s doctor’s orders. She’s really not well”.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time the singer is cancelling her shows due to health issues. Franklin, one of the most influential names in music industry, especially in the 1960’s and 1970’s was forced to cancel her tour in 2010 as well, in order to undergo a surgery.
The superstar’s latest appearance was via satellite, on the last week’s season finale of “American Idol”. She performed a medley of her hits with the finalists.
