Swedish electronic dance music (EDM) DJ Avicii was one of the first artists on the scene, shaping what party music is today. But the 26-year-old artist has just announced that he is done with music, and is retired. His emotional interview with Billboard was bittersweet.
Part of the letter read: “My choices and career have never been driven by material things, although I’m grateful for the comforts and opportunities my success have availed me. I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.” He was speaking about his serious health concerns where he ended up getting his gallbladder and appendix removed – both of which were damaged due to excessive drinking.
To take you back, Avicii was a young boy of 16 when he started created music, and by the time he was 18, he was already on the stage, touring all around the world. The rest is EDM history. “…thank you to every fan who has ever bought a ticket or snuck in, bought a song or downloaded it, commented on posts or hated on it. Its your thoughts and ideas about the music that helped me evolve and I do owe everything I have to you”. He took the time to write down probably every name who helped him on his journey to superstardom.
Avicii has produced mega hits such as “Wake Me Up”, “Levels” among others, has won many awards for his hits that garnered him millions of fans from around the world. He ended his letter saying that he will never completely give up music, and may come back soon, though not as soon as we really hope.
And oh, he also mentioned his personal number, so contact him if you must: +46769436383.
