American singer and songwriter Beyonce Knowles was criticized for her performance at President Obama’s second inauguration, with allegations that she was lip-syncing. Before the singer admitted to anything, she proved that she could sing live without help from a backing voice. In a gathered press room in New Orleans, the ‘Run the World’ singer gave a live performance of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ and proved just 24 hours before she is due to perform live at the Superbowl that she too can sing live.
Knowles then admitted that she did lip-sync the national anthem on the US inauguration day and sang live along with the pre-recorded tape instead of the US Marine band. The ‘Crazy in Love’ singer said while talking to the reporters, “I practice until my feet bleed and I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. Due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk”.
While giving an explanation, Knowles said that it was all about the President and the inauguration and that she wanted to make him and the country proud, due to which she decided to sing along with her own pre-recorded track. Beyonce added that she was proud of her performance. The singer also described the experience as emotional and added that she was a perfectionist, which is why she was more comfortable on a backing track.
