Beyonce caught everyone by surprise when she released her fifth, self-titled album last week and the online world is still buzzing about it, as it has just been announced that ‘Beyonce’ debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. In addition to creating a social media frenzy and crashing iTunes, the ‘Drunk In Love’ singer made history, as she became the first woman to reach No. 1 with her first five records.

The music icon’s latest release comes after ‘Dangerously In Love’, which was released in 2003, ‘B’Day’ in 2006, ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’, which had its debut in 2008 and ‘4’, which was released in 2011. One of the things in common with all of Beyonce’s records is that they all debuted at No. 1. This record was achieved by two other acts only – hip-hop superstar DXM and folk group the Kingston Trio.

The ‘Sweet Dreams’ singer’s new album was released at midnight on Friday, December 13, 2013 without any previous announcement and exclusively via the iTunes Store. ‘Beyonce’ managed to sell 617,000 copies by Sunday, December 15, 2013, which also marks a record high sales week for the diva, as the previous record was held by ‘B’Day’ with 541,000 copies.

The physical version of the ‘Halo’ singer’s latest album is expected to reach retailers in the US between December 18, 2013 and December 20, 2013.
