Legendary recording artist Prince will finally get a share of the limelight one feels is often not directed towards him, as he is set to be honored at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19, 2013 at Las Vegas. The awards will be broadcast live on ABC and will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The night will be sponsored by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority along with Chevrolet and will be produced by Don Mischer. There could be a host of stars that will pay tribute to Prince, similar to the tribute that Alicia Keys gave Stevie Wonder, when he was felicitated at the 2012 awards for his work in music.
The awards are based on a variety of factors based on album sales, streaming, social media interactions, fan interaction and touring among other factors. In 2012, Adele took home 12 awards and the show was an extravagant affair with over 15 live performances from stars like Katy Perry, Usher, Justin Bieber and Kelly Clarkson. The 2012 event also turned out to be a success for the ABC network as it beat ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ by 27% of the total viewership.
The awards will be decided on data received between February 27, 2012 and February 24, 2013 and will include winners in a variety of music styles such as country, rock, R&B, rap and alternative among others.
