The Byron Bay Bluesfest 2017 is set to rock next year, as they have already announced their star-studded lineup that includes 70s punk-poet legend, Patti Smith. It seems that the organizers are trying to mix in a little bit of the old and new, because other performers include The Lumineers and Grammy award winners, Zac Brown Band. Another legend has also signed-up for his first performance down under – Buddy Guy. Others in the lineup include Mavis Staples, Billy Bragg, Beth Hart and Bonnie Raitt.
Of Patti Smith’s appearance, there is something so super exciting that it would be a shame to miss something so iconic and ethereal as the melodious poet pulls off – she is going to be performing her debut album, Horses in its entirety! Yes, the same one that catapulted her to cult status and made her a face few would ever forget. The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame inductee will give audiences bits of her magic from the 1975 album. Festival director, Peter Noble said: “It must be hard to believe, but it is very true, that months, and in a few cases, years of work have gone into this artist announcement. It has taken over three years to get the very in-demand Patti Smith confirmed…”
The organizers have really put every resource into next year’s festival, as this year’s was not so successful. Case in point – American rapper, Kendrick Lamar who was the highlight of the show. In his hometown, he is hailed as a brilliant voice of his generation and has won numerous awards, including Grammys for his work, To Pimp A Butterfly. However, old blues lovers weren’t appreciative of his presence and almost half the audience walked out midway.
Bluesfest has been around for 28 years now and attracts over 100,000 visitors over its five days. Past performers have included legends such as Bob Dylan, B B King, Santana, Earth, Wind & Fire, John Meyer, John Legend and Grace Jones, among others. Bluesfest 2017 will be on from April 13 – April 17, 2017 and you can book your tickets now at the Official Bluesfest Website.
