British rock band Coldplay released a brand new track on Friday, August 23, 2013. The band’s latest single, titled ‘Atlas’, will be featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming, highly-anticipated second installment of ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise. The new song was recorded specifically for the movie and will most likely not be included on Coldplay’s future release.
The ‘Paradise’ musicians’ latest song features the lyrics, “caught in the fire, say oh”, which suggest that ‘Atlas’ was written by frontman Chris Martin especially for the upcoming movie. The full title of the popular saga’s second part is ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’.
Coldplay’s contribution to the latest movie’s soundtrack should not come as a surprise, as it was stated earlier that Martin is a big fan of ‘The Hunger Games’ books. Tracy McKnight – from the movie’s production company Lionsgate – released a statement, saying, “We are so honored that Coldplay, one of the iconic rock bands of our generation, will perform the first song out on the new soundtrack. Knowing that Chris Martin is a fan of the books makes this even more meaningful. The Coldplay single underscores the stature of recording artists we’ve assembled for this powerful soundtrack.”
The first movie’s soundtrack featured songs by Taylor Swift and The Arcade Fire. The ‘Fix You’ musicians’ last album ‘Mylo Xyloto’ was released in 2011. The band announced during their concert in Brisbane in 2012 that they would take a 3-year break once they finish the tour.
