Corey Taylor Breaks Silence On Metallica’s Stint At The Grammys 2017

The metal community around the world was left infuriated and insulted when legends Metallica were given a metaphorical lowly seat at the performers’ table at this year’s Grammys. On a touring spree to promote their new album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, the heavy metal veterans took the stage alongside Lady Gaga, just off from her Super Bowl Halftime Show bonanza.

Unfortunately, they didn’t realize it isn’t anymore like the old days. First off, announcer Laverne Cox didn’t even introduce Metallica, and only heralded the arrival of Gaga. Then, Hetfield’s microphone wasn’t on and he had to fumble through the performance, trying to get a shot at Gaga’s mic to complete their set. They had to do just one song, their hit Moth Into Flame, but it turned out to be a serious embarrassment, that was taken as an insult by the Grammys’ organizers.

And now, the great Slipknot frontman, Corey Taylor has spoken about the whole debacle. Being a close friend of Metallica and fronting two great bands, he knows what he’s talking about. And this is what he had to say, first about the whole Grammys awards show in particular –

If it were just about the music, you would see more metal bands – not including us – nominated in other categories, like Album Of The Year, all these different categories, and you just don’t. So it’s all a goddamn popularity contest, and I don’t have f*cking time for that sh*t, to be honest.

And what about Metallica, who are bigger legends than most of the artists in the room could ever be?

I feel bad for Metallica. Honestly, because at this point in their career they shouldn’t have been disrespected like that. They shut it off…The thing that people have to remember. I’m going to give you a little background. All of Metallica’s people are not allowed to work on live performances on television. None of us are. They have a sound producer and whole crew of people who work on those shows and then your people work right behind them but you’re not allowed to touch anything which is horse sh*t. Because stuff like this then happens.

Lastly, there’s the snub from Laverne Cox, who only introduced Lady Gaga for a performance that was supposed to be about Metallica, featuring the pop star.

The fact that they then weren’t introduced. It was just oh, here’s Lady Gaga. Oh btw, she’s f*cking with Metallica, you dick. Like, I have a lot of very strong opinions about the Grammys anyway. That really cemented it for me. We don’t need your respect. We don’t need you to make us feel like we accomplished something. Because all you do is open our mouths and shit in it…and I’m tired of tasting it – so fuck you, dude.

That’s Corey Taylor for you. Keepin’ it real. Keepin’ it metal.
