Dave Grohl has been an important music for roughly two decades now. Initially with Nirvana and then with the Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age, he has pushed the boundaries of contemporary rock music. Grohl has taken this same enthusiasm into his documentary titled ‘Sound City. The documentary is directed by the musician and covers various famous musicians from around the US talking about their experiences at this landmark studio.

Grohl has managed to put some of the biggest names in music in front of the camera, talking about what it was like to record at the famous studio. Rick Springfield, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac and others are wooed by Dave, who is allowed to sit in on recording sessions and given information that not many outside the music community would know.

The studio was opened in 1969 and was considered to be one of the best places to record rock music, giving birth to some of the biggest hit songs and albums the world has seen. At the centre of this documentary is the mixing board that was used by these legendary artists to put out their hits. When Sound City had shut down, Grohl had bought the custom Neve mixing board and installed it in his own studio at home. Thus he talks about the industry’s shift from tape to digital and everything in between, in this magical 107-minute long documentary – a must buy for any music lover.
