British rock legend David Bowie is gearing up for his first release of 2014 which will be ‘Rebel Rebel’, the latest in the continuing run of the ‘Space Oddity’ singer’s limited edition 40th anniversary 7” picture discs. ‘Rebel Rebel’ will be the seventh record featured in the series and is scheduled to have its debut on March 10, 2014 via Parlophone Records. The upcoming picture disc was preceded by ‘Starman’, ‘John I’m Only Dancing’, ‘The Jean Genie’, ‘Drive In Saturday’, ‘Life On Mars’ and ‘Sorrow’.
‘Rebel Rebel’ was originally released in February 1974 and it was the ‘Let’s Dance’ singer’s first new original single ever since The Spiders From Mars disbanded and was followed by ‘Diamond Dogs’, Bowie’s groundbreaking record. The song managed to reach the No. 5 spot in the UK, in addition to landing on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The A side of the upcoming 7” picture disc has the track’s original single mix, which has not been available on 7” since the beginning of 1980’s and remains unavailable on CD even now. In addition to that, the AA side features the US version of ‘Rebel Rebel’, which is the single’s remixed version with additional overdubs, released only in the US, Canada and Mexico in May 1974.
The picture disc’s artwork features two shots from a session held in Amsterdam in February 1974, at the television show Top Pop.
