Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, top BBC 1Xtra power list 2014.
English singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran bagged the top spot on BBC Radio’s 1Xtra power list. The list which features some of UK’s most prominent black and urban music artists is compiled via 1 Xtra’s listeners. 1Xtra’s Twitter and Facebook accounts are flooded with listener’s suggestions about who should be on the final list.
The suggestions are then presided over by 1Xtra’s DJ’s and industry experts who form a judging panel. This year’s panel was presided over by 1Xtra’s breakfast presenters Twin B and Yasmin Evans.
Ed Sheeran was followed by the English electronic duo – Disclosure. The two debuted on the music scene during late 2010, but have only gained prominence in the recent past.
The third spot was occupied by English rapper Tinie Tempah, his 2nd album ‘Demonstration’ was released in November 2013. Tempah had recently played at the Wireless Festival in London and Birmingham.
Fourth on the list was Sam Smith who first rose to fame when he featured on Disclosure’s breakthrough single Latch (October 2012). Later in May 2013, his feature on Naughty Boys La La La won him his first number one single on the singles chart.
BBC Radio 1Xtra was launched in August 2002 and is a digital radio station in the United Kingdom from the BBC which specializes in urban music.
