Ed Sheraan bags Spotify’s most streamed artist title for 2014

English singing sensation Ed Sheraan is Spotify’s most streamed artist for 2014.

R&B crooner Ed Sheeran is officially Spotify’s most streamed artist for the year 2014. The singer has raked in a humungous total of 860 million streams, which beats music world bigwigs like Eminem and Coldplay.

The singer’s latest album X was played at least 430 million times. The album’s sales hit a staggering million mark in the United Kingdom this week. The English singer-songwriter’s career took off majorly in 2012, when he featured on singer Taylor Swift’s fourth studio album Red.  

The 23-year-old singing sensation is all set to take the stage by storm in 2015; he has three concerts lined up as a part of his x world tour, the concerts will be held at London’s famous Wembley Stadium, these will be the singer’s biggest solo shows till date.

Eminen and Coldplay occupied the No. 2 and No. 3 spot on the list respectively. Amongst the female artists, Dark Horse sensation Katy Perry sat on the top spot, replacing the reigning queen Rihanna. 

My Everything singer Arianna Grande occupied the second spot, while Summertime Sadness star Lana Del Rey was in the third position. 

The most listened track in 2014 was Pharrell Williams’ Happy, which had over 260 million plays world wide. Britain’s Clean Bandit was in the second position (Rather Be), while DJ Calvin Harris was third with his song Summer. 

Online music streaming platform Spotify has more than 50 million users listening to 7 billion hours of music in 2014.
