A couple of days ago, we reported on the nominees for the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame, that included rap legend, Tupac Shakur. And now, another significant face from the industry has been nominated for his contribution to songwriting – Roc Nation boss, Jay Z has been named one of the nominees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame. And the rapper needs to introduction, really. Actually, being the spouse of Beyoncé should earn him a lifetime achievement award! Anyway, here are the nominees for next year’s induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame:
Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis
Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham
P. F. Sloan (deceased) & Steve Barri
William “Mickey” Stevenson
Shawn “Jay Z” Carter
Peter Cetera, Robert Lamm & James Pankow
Cat Stevens (aka, Yusuf Islam)
Robert “Kool” Bell, Ronald Bell & George Brown
Sylvester “Sly Stone” Stewart
The Annual Induction and Awards Gala will take place on June 15, 2017 in New York City. If you would like to vote for your favorite songwriters, then you have that opportunity to do so until December 16, 2016. Visit songhall.com for more information on the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
And in related news, Jay Z’s “brother”, Kanye West took time out during a performance for another rant about how the rap mogul handled (or didn’t even bother) about the robbery that happened in Paris with his wife, Kim Kardashian, when $10 million worth of jewelry was stolen and has Kim shaken and in hiding. He whined about how Jay just asked him over the phone about how things were going, and that if he really cared and wanted to know, he should have come over, and brought the fam. He also complained that their children, Jay Z’s Blue Ivy and Kanye’s North, haven’t even had a play date yet. There is still no response from Jay, though we now assume that he’s busy celebrating his nomination to the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
