Katy Perry has been announced as the host for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards

Pop star Katy Perry has officially been announced as the host for the evening at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. Being called MTV’s ‘Moonwoman’, the singer made the announcement on Twitter, along with a short clip that shows her floating through space in a psychedelic space suit. It looks eerily familiar to her music video for hit E.T. that also had featured rapper Kanye West. She tagged the post: “Introducing your MOONWOMAN. Brace for impact! August 27th on @MTV @VMAs”.

Katy Perry has also been given five nominations for tracks from her latest album, WitnessChained To The Rhythm featuring Skip Marley and Bon Appetit are both nominated in different categories. Witness had topped the Billboard music charts upon release. Bon Appetit earned over 100 million views in just over two weeks and her other singles from different albums, Firework grossed over a billion views, along with Roar!.

In a press conference, Katy Perry made the exciting announcement, saying: “I’ve been training with MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I’m on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Come August 27th, I’ll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN! Brace for impact, kids.”
