Pop superstar Katy Perry is set to achieve some new records in her career, as her latest single ‘Roar’ is off to a very good start, as expected. The catchy new tune leaked prematurely online – on August 10, 2013 – two days earlier than it was originally planned. However, with less than two days of airplay, ‘Roar’ made its debut at No. 34 on the Nielsen BDS-based Pop Songs chart.

Katy Perry's new single Roar debuts on the charts

According to Nielsen BDS, Perry’s latest hit had 1,662 plays across 123 top 40 radio stations and it also premiered at No. 38 on the Adult Pop Songs chart, which marks the ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer’s 13th entry on that tally. The pop superstar’s third studio album ‘Prism’ is scheduled for October 22, 2013 release and ‘Roar’ is the first single from the highly-anticipated album. The new single premiered at digital retailers on August 12, 2013 at 12 am and was then followed by an official lyric video on YouTube and VEVO.

Despite all signs pointing out to a great spot, it is still a bit difficult to predict where will ‘Roar’ end up on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, both this week and the next. The Hot 100 list is based on sales, airplay and streaming data and is compiled every Wednesday. The ‘Firework’ singer is also set to premiere ‘Roar’ at a major award show – MTV’s Video Music Awards – on August 25, 2013.
