The first American Idol and probably our favorite one, Kelly Clarkson, created history today after she achieved the most number of No. 1s on the Billboard charts. How many exactly? One hundred! That’s right, 100 No. 1 Singles.
Taking over from Rihanna’s Work that has been on the charts since it’s release on Tidal last month, Piece By Piece is now the front runner. The autobiographical track is from Clarkson’s seventh studio album. The single had reached to the 35th spot, but shot up to the top after the pop star’s emotional performance on American Idol, the show on which Kelly is an alumnus.
During the last season of the epic singing talent show, the first winner of the show, Kelly Clarkson, and by far the most successful, performed the track in front of an audience. The heavily pregnant star was emotional and brought audiences across the world to tears. It must have been a nostalgic moment for her.
It was way back in 2002 that the young Clarkson stunned the judges and voters alike with her big voice. She broke out with her first Number 1, A Moment Like This. Since then, she has belted out hit after hit, including breakup single Since U Been Gone, Behind These Hazel Eyes, My Life Would Suck Without You, among others.
Kelly Clarkson then went on a break after her fairytale wedding to Brandon Blackstock, a talent manager and subsequent birth of her first child, River Rose, though it is Blackstock’s third, with a boy and girl from a previous marriage.
The other American Idol alumni close to Clarkson’s record include country singer Carrie Underwood (82), rocker Chris Daughtry (40) and R&B singer Fantasia (35). The show itself will be concluding after it’s 15th Season. There have been a ton of memorable moments, including controversial judges such as Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey among others, though the show now is judged by Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban. Randy Jackson was the longest standing judge for the show, hosted throughout by Ryan Seacrest.
