The famous American singer and songwriter Lauryn Hill is set to return to the music scene, after a number of legal problems she has faced in recent months. The ‘Everything Is Everything’ singer is scheduled to leave jail on Friday, October 4, 2013 and will celebrate her release in the best possible way: by releasing a new single, titled ‘Consumerism’.

The former Fugees singer is getting ready to end her 3-month imprisonment for tax evasion and is bound to make her loyal fans very happy with the latest news. The ‘Nothing Even Matters’ singer’s new track was written before she went to jail, but was mixed during the star’s imprisonment.

Hill explained the background of ‘Consumerism’ in a message on her Tumblr page, where she wrote, “I haven’t been able to watch the news too much recently, so I’m not hip on everything going on. But inspiration of this sort is a kind of news in and of itself, and often times contains an urgency that precedes what happens. I couldn’t imagine it not being relevant.”

The ‘Killing Me Softly’ singer was sentenced to jail earlier in 2013 for not paying taxes on about $1 million in earnings. The Grammy-winning singer stated that threats to herself and her family were the reason she left the music industry and did not fulfill her tax duties. Hill is currently working on her upcoming project, ‘Letters From Exile’.
