After two years of keeping us waiting, pop star Lorde’s new music is finally out for release! For the past couple of days, the Royals singer put up teaser posts for a brand new track called Green Light that is part of her much-awaited sophomore LP.
Green Light is a track produced by fun.’s Jack Antonoff, who has apparently produced the entire album, as Lorde said herself during a past interview. On first listen, the track appears a little more up-tempo than the old Lorde we are used to listening to. With a piano hook background and an addictive chorus, the song is totally dance-worthy.
The video to Green Light was also released, and features a curly-haired Lorde who feels the music as she goes on to sing about a deep-seeded break-up that she is trying to get over. She even explained what the new track is about, and it comes across as something pretty intense –
“The song is actually about a heartbreak. And it’s not something that I really am used to writing about. It took me a while to be able to figure out how to write about that. It was my first major heartbreak. And the song is really about those moments kind of immediately after your life changes and about all the silly little things that you gravitate towards. I say, ‘She thinks you love the beach, you’re such a liar’. What the f*ck, she thinks you like the beach?! You don’t like the beach! It’s those little stupid things. It sounds so happy and then the lyrics are so intense, obviously. And I realized I was like, ‘How come this thing is coming out so joyous sounding?’ And I realized that is that drunk girl at the party dancing around crying about her ex-boyfriend who everyone thinks is a mess. That’s her tonight and tomorrow she starts to rebuild. And that’s the song for me.”
Lorde’s upcoming sophomore LP will be called Melodrama.
