Man Murders Girlfriend After Listening To GnR’s “Used To Love Her”

We’re actually surprised he didn’t shoot himself after listening to a crooning Axl Rose (just kidding), but a man committed a heinous crime when he shot and killed his live-in girlfriend after listening to Guns N Roses’ Used To Love Her.

Thomas Michael Wilhelm, a 52-year-old Costa Mesa resident listened to the rock classic minutes before he fatally shot his 45-year-old girlfriend, Christine Marie Murray, nearly four years ago. According evidence produced in the court where Wilhelm is currently undergoing trial for first degree murder, the accused sent a text message to his friend, saying he was listening to the track, with lyrics that go as –

I used to love her

But I had to kill her

I used to love her

But I had to kill her

I had to put her six feet under

And I can still hear her complain.

For all you nagging girlfriends out there, now afraid to make your man listen to GnR ever again, just know that Thomas Wilhelm was suffering from undisclosed mental illness, coupled with alcohol consumption at the time of the slaying. His defence says was, literally, not in his senses when he pulled the trigger.

The origin of the track itself is not based on real life events of any kind, and members of the band had earlier stated that the lyrics were written in general, and with no particular person or ex-girlfriend in mind. Guitarist for the band, Izzy Stradlin had said: “I was sitting around and listening to the radio and some guy was whining about a broad who was treating him bad. I wanted to take the radio and smash it against the wall. Such self-pity! What a wimp! So we rewrote the same song we heard with a better ending. People think it’s about one of our ex girlfriends, but it’s actually about Axl’s dog.”
