This past year has seen album releases from the top bands in metal – Iron Maiden, Disturbed and even Megadeth. Now it is Metallica’s turn to show its mettle, and they have just confirmed a 20-track album to be released in June 2016. They already teased us with their single, Lords Of Summer last year. This is going to be the legendary band’s 10th studio album, and it seems that they have been working hard on it, as stated by founding member and drummer, Lars Ulrich: “We’ve got lots of songs, and we’re honing them and tweaking them. It’s pretty close. In our world, there’s been a distinct difference between the creative phase and the recording phase……The creative elements are getting close to be done.”
The last album released by them has been in 2008 with Death Magnetic. They are also taking their usual gigs they are famed for, the last most significant one being at the Super Bowl, where they held their own instead of mingling with the other performers of the night, especially the pop lot they distanced themselves from. When Ulrich was asked by Rolling Stone if Metallica was going to perform some of their tracks for taste at any of their shows, he said: “I hope so. Absolutely.”
Record Store Day also just got done and Metallica released a cassette version of their 1982 demo tape, No Life ‘Til Leather that was responsible shooting them to fame and included ethereal hits like Hit The Lights, The Mechanix, Motorbreath, Seek & Destroy, Metal Militia, Jump In The Fire and Phantom Lord.
