It’s been a while since we’ve seen Miley Cyrus. After taking herself away from the spotlight and condemning red carpets, she’s back and bringing new music along with her! The star has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. From her provocative performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Music Awards to her open endorsement of pot and straight-to-SoundCloud album, Miley And Her Dead Petz, the singer has come a long way. Today she says she is “clean”, happily in love with Liam Hemsworth and releasing a new single, Malibu from her yet-untitled studio album.
On her most favorite topic, weed, Miley Cyrus tells Billboard: “This is crazy. But I haven’t smoked weed in three weeks! I like to surround myself with people that make me want to get better, more evolved, open. And I was noticing, it’s not the people that are stoned. I want to be super clear and sharp, because I know exactly where I want to be.”
She and beau Liam Hemsworth are more happier than ever. After their split back in 2013, they are now engaged and living together in a house that involves a number of rescue animals, like pigs and horses. Miley Cyrus decided that if she wanted to release her first single, it had to have something to do with her relationship with him. Being in the public eye has not been easy for the both of them. “They’re going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam. So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, ‘This is how I feel?'”
And she has gained wisdom from her relationship. She understands why they had to give it a second chance. “I needed to change so much. And changing with someone else not changing like that is so hard. Suddenly you’re like, ‘I don’t recognize you anymore.’ We had to re-fall for each other.”
Today Miley Cyrus is a sober, determined woman. “I haven’t smoked weed in three weeks, which is the longest I’ve ever. I’m not doing drugs, I’m not drinking, I’m completely clean right now! That was just something that I wanted to do. It’s easy. If anyone told me not to smoke, I would have not done it. It’s because it was on my time.”
Miley Cyrus wants to now concentrate on going back to her roots for her new album. She has Dolly Parton as her godmother and judges with Blake Shelton on The Voice. Country is who she really is. And she’s not afraid to face country fans after her public scandals. From twerking on Robin Thicke to donning glitter nipple pasties, Miley knows she will face a little opposition from the country community, but has faith that they will support her.
Miley Cyrus’ new single, Malibu will release on May 11, 2017.
