Country music star Blake Shelton, a native of Oklahoma, was joined by his wife, singer Miranda Lambert and other stars like Usher and Reba McEntire to raise funds for the tornado recovery, on May 29, 2013. The ‘Honey Bee’ singer organized a Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert to help people of Oklahoma after a devastating tornado.
Shelton started the concert at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City with an emotional rendition of ‘God Gave Me You’, followed by performances from Rascal Flatts, Luke Bryan, Darius Rucker and Ryan Tedder from One Republic. Shelton’s wife, Miranda Lambert was trying to fight back tears as images of rescued pets were projected onto the big screens behind her, while she performed ‘The House That Built Me’. Country singer and actress Reba McEntire addressed the first responders who attended the concert and thanked them for their hard work.
Blake Shelton also invited his colleagues and friends, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood and Toby Keith to record video messages and ask viewers to donate to non-profit organization the United Way, while country couple Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood reminded everyone how many more people were close to death as tornado hit.
Concert was closed with a duet from Shelton and Usher, who performed ‘Home’ and urged viewers one more time to donate as much as they can to help the people of Oklahoma.
