Despite recent rumors surrounding American Idol, shocking announcements were revealed to fans of the famous singing competition, as jury members Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey will not be returning for the upcoming, 13th season. On May 30, 2013, Minaj posted on Twitter it is “time to focus on the music”. Just a few hours earlier Mariah announced that she was not coming back to the show so that she can focus on her upcoming tour.
Carey and Minaj were announced as new judges on American Idol this season, along with country music singer Keith Urban. Two divas constantly argued on air, to the extent it was becoming uncomfortable for the viewers, as well as contestants. Fremantle Media, producer of American Idol, in a statement said that Minaj was “a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion”.
The statement added that Carey will always remain as an inspiration to Idol hopefuls for many seasons to come. Randy Jackson, the lone remaining original judge on the show, announced that he was leaving AI ahead of the 12th season finale, when Candice Glover was crowned as the latest Idol.
Minaj and Carey join other stars who judged the show and left it, including Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Simon Cowell.
