Nine Inch Nails Release First Track “Burning Bright” Off Surprise EP

Trent Reznor, thank you for this fantastic year-end gift! While 2016 hasn’t been such a bright year for all of us (ref: dead musical legends – David Bowie, Prince, George Michael), we can end it on a good note, from none other than Nine Inch Nails. Frontman Reznor dropped a track, video included, called Burning Bright (Field On Fire) from their surprise EP Not The Actual Events. Take a look at the official video below –

The EP, called Not The Actual Events was created by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. When asked about the general idea behind the EP, Reznor said it is “an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make. It’s an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story.”

Here is the track list off Not The Actual Events, an EP by Nine Inch Nails:

  1. Branches/Bones
  2. Dear World
  3. She’s Gone Away
  4. The Idea Of You
  5. Burning Bright (Field On Fire)

Trent Reznor was the only official member of Nine Inch Nails until Atticus Ross joined this year. Reznor previously stated that the band was going to come out with two major works in 2017. This, in addition to his and Ross’ musical scores for Before The Flood and Patriots Day. Reznor said: “A lot of what’s blessed as the cool thing feels pretty generic and also feels, a lot of it, like a desperate plea for commercial airplay and success. That combined with just our own worldview and a kind of daydream I was having led to ‘Let’s make a record that feels challenging, and exciting to us…’ I wanted the music to sound kind of ugly and to sound unfriendly not suck you in with a sexy hook.”

As for what’s in store for Nine Inch Nails in 2017, in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Trent Reznor said: “That will be part of the reveal. I don’t want to spoil it. If I’m interested in a film, I prefer not to watch the trailer. We live in overstimulated times.” And a Nine Inch Nails tour? There hasn’t been one since 2014! “Not in the immediate future, but we are discussing it.”
