Southern funk and R&B duo Outkast bring hip-hop fans from all schools together across 40 festivals.
Earlier this year, pioneering southern funk ensemble Outkast had announced a reunion tour, where the duo, Boi Boi and André 3000, would return on one stage after a decade. Seven months on, the hip-hop unit is going strong with performances spread across 40 festivals worldwide, to mark not just their 20 years of existence, but also the two decade anniversary of their 1994 debut groundbreaking album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzi
Although, the two have had a tumultuous relationship in the past, they have reportedly put their differences aside to tour most part of the year together. André 3000 had reached out to fans, saying, “Returning to the stage together is the most exciting way for us to thank everyone for their 20 years of supporting Outkast.”
The R&B faction started their 2014 resurgence tour with the Coachella Music Festival in the US they went on to perform at Counterpoint, Big Guava, Hangout, Sasquatch, BottleRock Napa Valley, Governer’s Ball, Firefly Music Festival, BET Music Experience, Summer fest, Forecastle and Pemberton Festivals, Lollapalooza, Mad Decent Bloc Party, LouFest, Funk Fest Charolette, #ATLAst, Austin City Limits in the US.

There also went around Europe and Asia-Pacific to rock stages at Orange Warsaw Festival (Poland), Rosklide Festival (Denmark), Wireless Festival and Bestival (UK), Montreux Jazz Festival and Openair Frauenfeld (Switzerland), Splash! and Rock’ N’Heim (Germany), North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), Splendour in the Grass (Australia), Fuji Festival (Japan), Osheaga Music and Arts Festival and OVO Fest (Canada), Oya Fest (Norway), Way Out West (Sweden), Flow Festival (Finland), Pukkelpop (Belgium), Sziget Festival (Hungary) and Electric Picnic (Ireland).
Outkast will wind up their tour with the Treasure Island Music Festival, Life is Beautiful Festival and Voodoo Experience (New Orleons) in the US in October 2014.
The ‘Miss Jackson’ duo have had their share of successes in their solo careers. While Big Boi contributed a track titled Mother of Dragons to the Game of Thrones mixtape Catch the Throne, André 3000 was seen playing Jimi Hendrix in John Ridley’s 2013 biopic of the guitar god in Jimi: All Is By My Side. The film has so far been featured in the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, South by Southwest film festival, New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) and had a limited release in the UK on August 8, 2014.
