British guitarist Peter Banks, who was the original guitar player for the rock band Yes, passed away at his residence in London. Banks was 65 years old and a statement from the musician’s website mentioned that he died on March 7, 2013.
Banks was found dead at his residence after he failed to show up for a recording session. His fellow band members had released a statement which spoke about the late musician. The band was formed in the year 1968. Peter was widely considered to be the pioneer of progressive rock guitar and a statement from his bandmates said, “We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of fellow bandmate and founding Yes member, Peter Banks”.
His band members added, that Banks was a huge piece of fabric which made Yes what it is today. They went on to say that their thoughts, condolences and prayers were with him and his family. An official press release said that Banks had performed on the first two albums for Yes. The band was known for its symphonic style and complex instrumentation.
Banks had also formed the band Flash and had released three albums with them, which were also popular among his fans. Apart from Flash, Banks was known to play for the band Empire.
