The ratings of the latest season of the singing reality show American idol might have been low, but it wasn’t the case with the fans of the winner Phillip Phillips. The fans of the 21 year old young star has helped him to score one of the biggest digital sales weeks of any contestant in the history of the show.
The young star managed to sell 278,000 copies of the single ‘Home’ last week and pushed the song to number 2 on the Digital Songs chart and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The total sales has become the second biggest digital week of any Idol season in front of the 280,000 downloads of Kelly Clarkson’s ‘My Lie Would Suck Without You’ in the year 2009.
Among the songs of the Idol, the single ‘Home’ now owns download records leaving behind David Cook’s ‘The Time Of My Life’ that sold 236,000 copies. Billboard also informed that Clay Aiken also had a bigger sales just a week before digital downloads became the default format. Aiken managed to sell 393,000 CD singles of ‘This is The Night’ in the year 2003 after finishing as the runner up to Ruben Studdard.
