The rock fraternity was literally rocked Thursday night with the news that Scott Weiland, former frontman of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver was found dead. He was only 48 years old.
News reports are slowly emerging that the troubled rockstar was found unresponsive in his bunk on the tour bus of his current band Wildabouts. They were scheduled to perform in Minnesota at the Medina Entertainment Centre.
Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro tweeted: “Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died. So gutted, I am thinking of his family tonight.” The tweet has since been deleted.
Disturbed frontman David Draiman also made an official condolence announcement on their Facebook page, remembering the late rocker and praising him and the influence he played on his own life.
Scott Weiland was known as a charismatic singer with an undeniable presence every time he took to the stage. However, his career was marred by substance abuse problems, the result of which was his elimination from Stone Temple Pilots as well as Velvet Revolver.
The results of his autopsy are expected by Friday.
