Lynrd.com: Iconic American thrash metal band Slayer is slated to play in India on October 20, 2012 at Vladivar Rock ’N India, India’s only international rock music festival. Slayer is one of the ‘Big Four’ of metal along with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax; with Slayer now scheduled to play in India, metal fans would have seen three of the Big Four within the span of a year.
Slayer was the brainchild of guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, who along with drummer Dave Lombardo and bass guitarist and singer Tom Araya proceeded to dominate the metal scene of the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Throughout the bands’ career, spanning 30 years, Slayer has entertained audiences around the world, gathering world wide acclaim as one of the purest thrash metal bands around. Their musical style includes fast tremolo picking, growled vocals and complex drum work. This will be the first time the American heavyweight will be playing in India.
Mumbai metal act ‘Brahma’ have managed to grab the opening slot for the evening, a band that has been around for 2 decades. The second opening slot will be decided in a competition between bands chosen via an online voting forum.
Tickets are available online and in several retail stores including Planet M, Landmark, Mobile Store and Hysteria in Bengaluru.
Vladivar Rock ’N India has been one of the sole promoters of International rock and metal in India, bringing down other big names from the music industry such as Megadeth, Metallica, Machine Head, Iron Maiden and Biffy Clyro. Indian bands also benefit immensely from such events, getting a chance to showcase their music in front of crowds otherwise unimaginable in a yet infant underground scene.
