Ever since Taylor Swift announced the release date of her sixth studio album, Reputation, fans have been waiting to see what she has in store. Over a year in silence, barely making any public appearances and only releasing I Don’t Wanna Live Forever with Zayn for Fifty Shades Darker, there was little to nothing to be heard from Swift. Then last Thursday, she released the lyric video for her first single off the upcoming album, Look What You Made Me Do. Nothing prepared no one for the official video release.
During Sunday’s MTV VMAs, the video for Look What You Made Me Do premiered. And that’s when jaws dropped to the floor. Taylor Swift is a darker, edgier version of herself now. She transforms from a zombie out of a graveyard to a ballsy chick churning out members from her U Squad factory. Then she’s this vengeful rich white girl in a bathtub of jewels. Now she’s a lady boss sitting on a throne with snakes at her service. And best of all, she’s the T who is killing off her old avatars. Swift brings out her characters from songs like You Belong With Me and Shake It Off and getting done with all that.
There are so many reactions to Look What You Made Me Do. Her loyalists are applauding her for standing up to her haters, finally. Others are saying that she sounds like a high school girl who is trying to be vengeful but falling flat on her face. And still others are just too shook to see Swift blatantly calling out Kanye West and Kim K, not to mention Katy Perry in the video. In any case, Swifties are being swift with the repeat button, because Look What You Made Me Do has already garnered over 24 million views on YouTube within 24 hours.
Reputation will be releasing on November 10, 2017.
