Irish rock band U2 in the year 2011, grossed $156 million from 25 shows in 21 North American cities and became the highest grossing act of the year. Reports said that the band grossed $231 million for the year 2011.
On the other hand singer Taylor Swift missed the $100 million mark in North American and made just $97.7 million in more than 80 dates while touring in 59 cities for her ‘Speak Now’ tour. The band U2 narrowly beat the British boy band ‘Take That’ which grossed $224 million after they reunited with their popular front man Robbie Williams.
Moreover, the 2009 concerts of the Irish band collected $311 million during their worldwide tour. While the New Jersey rockers, Bon Jovi held the third position with $148 million in the year 2011.
Overall, the top 25 tours of the year 2011 grossed $2.1 billion , which came about same as last year. The top ten were Elton John, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne’ tour, Sade, Celine Dion and Lil Wayne. The concert business trade magazine Pollstar, keeps a watch on the sales of the tickets through out the year of the major tours. While Billboard maintains a bit different calendar, which starts from November.
