Irish rock legends U2 are back on the music scene after three years and the ‘Beautiful Day’ musicians have released ‘Ordinary Love’, a brand new song from the upcoming Nelson Mandela biopic, titled ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’. The latest single, which had its debut on Thursday, November 21, 2013 is the band’s first new material since ‘Soon’, which was released back in 2010.
‘Ordinary Love’ is another classic from the ‘With Or Without You’ musicians and features Bono’s soaring vocal and The Edge’s amazing guitar performance. The single is powerful and epic, though it does not cross the fine line of becoming a fists-clenched ballad. Even though it is not exactly clear who produced the band’s latest song, the new U2 album which is currently in production will be helmed by Danger Mouse.
Harvey Weinstein, the Weinstein Company co-founder who asked U2 to write a song for the biopic, said, “The band saw various cuts of the film over the summer and worked diligently to write a song that truly reflects Nelson Mandela. I think they did a brilliant job honoring the man and the leader they have known for over 20 years.”
U2’s latest single will be available for purchase on vinyl during the Record Store Day’s Black Friday sale, while a digital download will follow soon. The ‘All I Want Is You’ musicians are scheduled to release their first album since ‘No Line on the Horizon’ in April 2014.
